Unit Aims

This unit develops learners’ understanding of different perspectives of quality in health and social care service provision, and how quality is evaluated to improve services and to empower and involve service users.

Understand strategies for achieving quality in health and social care services.	2.1 Explain ways in which quality can be measured in health and social care. 2.2 Evaluate approaches to implementing quality systems. 2.3 Analyse barriers to the delivery of quality in health and social care services.

Assignment Guidance

Summarise your findings in a portfolio of evidence made up of a briefing report, a presentation and a report.

Task 1 of 3: Briefing Report (AC 1.3, 2.3, 3.1, 3.3)

Write a briefing report on quality systems in a health and social care environment covering:

the impact of poor quality and standards;

barriers to the delivery of quality;

the effectiveness of quality systems, policies and procedures;

ways services could improve quality.

Submission: one briefing report, 1,000 words (excluding diagrams, references and appendices).

Task 2 of 3: Presentation (AC 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 4.1)

Prepare a presentation with speaker notes showing your understanding of different perspectives of quality and strategies for achieving it, covering stakeholder roles, the role of external agencies, ways of measuring quality and the contribution of service users to evaluating provision.

Submission: presentation file and speaker notes, 500 words.

Task 3 of 3: Report (AC 2.2, 4.2)

Write a report evaluating approaches to implementing quality systems and methods for assessing the quality of service provision.

Submission: one report, 1,500 words.
