You should also write this section in the 3rd person.
This section should be no more than 200 words.

Case study
| Briefly outline your case study that you will use to illustrate the theories and care plan for this essay. | 7 marks
| The case study should outline a client and their presenting problems some of which you will discuss in the essay and the care plan. It needs to be detailed enough so that the reader can identify the issues you discuss in relation to the theories and care plan.
Presentation in the essay: Outline your case study and the problems in a paragraph in the essay. Any further detail can be put in the appendix Using no more than 200-300 words. |
Main body Is divided into three sections | Section 1: This should discuss international and national policies that relate to your case study. | 15 marks | For this section you should look at Global policies such as WHO in terms of older people’s health. You then need to discuss and evaluate national and local policies relevant to your country about your case study.
You then need to broaden the discussion and relate the national/local policies you have chosen to your case study.
For example: You might want to take one or two examples and critically discuss them. For example you might want to explore pensions or the lack of pension and explore the impact on your case study and how this aligns with older people’s health generally.

Section 2: You will discuss one ageing theory explaining how it relates with your case study and where it does not. | 15 marks | In this section there is an expectation that you demonstrate an awareness of the theories of ageing.
You will discuss one ageing theory. There is an expectation that the theory you choose will be critically discussed – in terms of the strengths and weakness of the theory. There is a requirement to link discussions of the theory to the case study. So you need to explain how the theory fits with your case study and where it does not.

Section 3: You will discuss one nursing theory that relate to your case study | 15 marks | In this section that you demonstrate an awareness of the theories of nursing theories that are available relating to older people’s health care. You will then choose one theory to discuss in detail. You need to critically analyse how these are used, i.e. their strengths and weaknesses and relate these to your case study. For example, you may choose to discuss person-centered care. You would explain what this is and support your statements with relevant literature about the topic but also relate this to your particular case study. This section is approximately 600 words. This should be written in academic style (3rd person) and supported by evidence from your reading. | |
Case study | You need to develop a care plan relating to the case study. | 26 marks | Here you are expected to develop a care plan looking at 3 problems and no more than 3 interventions per problem. A template has been provided already to help you outline some key priorities of care.
You will see that the template asks for: 1. three main problems 2. No more than 3 interventions per problem 3. A rationale for your decisions of care. 4. . your short and long term goals
This should include a reference that supports the intervention you suggest.
For example, one presenting problem may be pain. An intervention might be to monitor their pain effectively. In your rationale you may choose a pain management strategy and here you would need to evidence base this with a reference from the literature. Also outline the short and long term goals.

Conclusion | Concise summary of key areas of discussion covered in your essay | 5 marks | Here you should summarise the main points discussed in the essay

Assessment Regulations | All assessments are subject to the Edinburgh Napier University regulations (For this module Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework (SCQA) Level 9 (this defines the standard of credits across Scotland and enables students to map their level of credits) is the level expected of all students – undergraduate regulations apply). To pass a SCQF level 9 module at the first attempt, a student must achieve a minimum module mark of 40 per cent. The module mark will be derived from the component or components of assessment. | ||
