Requirements:

As an IT support engineer, you are responsible to gather data for identifying business requirements. The data collection, analysis and documentation process must be recorded in a report.

The report must contain all of the following tasks:

Task 1: Identifying key information sources of business requirements, including:

  • Name information sources which are needed to identify business domain.
  • Name information sources which are needed to identify the current and future directions of the organization
  • Review existing organisational documentation. At least 2 of the following documents must be reviewed.

    • facilitated group sessions or group discussions

    • policy documents including quality assurance practices

  • Describe the current industry accepted hardware and software products, general features and capabilities suited to the project.
  • Examine the system’s current hardware, software and communication functionality.
  • Identify the stakeholders in the scenario, their roles and their degree of involvement in the process.
  • Use a wide range of questions to elicit the information from key stakeholders
  • List critical questions to elicit information from key stakeholders

 

Task 2: Gathering data of business requirements, including:

  • Demonstrate use of a variety of techniques to collect information. At least 2 of the following techniques must be used.
    • Observation
    • Workshop
    • Questionnaires
    • Surveys
    • Interview
  • Specify current and future directions of the organization
  • Review reports, statistics, and other information sources for business requirements
  • Review quality assurance practices
  • Outline the business-critical factors relating organization vision with key stakeholders. Business-critical factors may include:
    • Customer Confidence
    • Customer Demographics
    • Data Knowledge and Management
    • Expectations
    • Response Times
    • Scalability
    • Security
    • Traffic

Task 3: Analysing the collected data to identify the business requirements, including:

Define the client business domain, so that the business needs are understood by project team and client.

  • Analyse organizational documentation and all other related data sources to identify business priority based on business strategy and current and future directions.
  • Analyse the group as well as individual responses of stakeholders to define business priorities
  • Describe the information gathering techniques and processes used.
  • Review the current industry accepted hardware and software products and related functionalities to identify the one which best suits the current system’s hardware, software and communication functionality.
  • Specify quality assurance practices required when determining the requirements.

Task 4: Documenting data analysis to identify business requirements appropriately according to organisational standards*.

  • Document data analysis to identify business requirements appropriately according to the standards of the organization you are working with. Document may include:
  • Business requirement specifications
  • Textual documentation, such as system-requirement specifications
  • Case diagrams
  • Wireframes

  • May include but are not restricted to policy relating to sign-off, storage, distribution, revision
