Module content

Welcome to the Employability Skills module. This module is designed to give you the skills to develop your career once you have completed your degree. Increasingly employers are saying that they put a greater emphasis on key graduate skills rather than just a degree classification. They want potential applicants to be able to demonstrate a range of skills and personal attributes. Recruiters now look at candidate’s skills, commitment, and knowledge, (commonly known as the triangle of success)

It will introduce you to the world of Business and prepare you for the world of work by helping you to develop, your CV, your online profile and interview skills. It will teach you about the specific skills that employers are looking for in the 21st century and how you can demonstrate those skills to potential employers. The module tutors will use creative and engaging activities for independent study and for formative and summative assessments. The material covered in this module will help you to become more self-reliant, self motivated, self-aware, and self-confident. It will also start the process of getting you to think about how to form positive professional working relationships with managers, colleagues and other stakeholders

The module is also designed to improve the skills you will need to enter the graduate marketplace at the end of your degree and the professional skills required to thrive in the business world

Finally the module will look at communication and analytical skills as these areas often assessed by employers during a recruitment process. There will also be a revision session on academic writing to support students with their academic writing skills which they will need for all of the other modules

As with any other module on a degree programme, the amount of benefit that you will gain from the module is related to the amount of effort that you put in. This includes regular participation and contact with your peers, contact sessions, active participation in class discussions, and regular visits to the Blackboard site for this module.
