Mlowe is an area found in Rumphi district in northern region of Malawi. The area is found in the eastern side of the district about 45 km from the Rumphi boma. Mlowe lies along the shore of Lake Malawi which borders with Tanzania to the eastern side. The main economic activity is fishing. The main food crop is cassava. The village has a total population of about 9913 people and a total of 86 villages which constitute 4 Village Development committees under Traditional Authority Mwamlowe

For the past 3 years, there have been increased cases of diarrhea due to poor sanitation in the village. There are very few households with toilets and most people defecate in waters of Lake Malawi. Traditional leaders and civic leaders approached number of organizations with aim of reducing cases of diarrhea and other water borne diseases in the area.
